Colombo has transformed into one of the greenest and cleanest cities in the world. This dynamic commercial region is now home to many people-friendly spaces, with all the modern public facilities, according to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development. On the other hand, Mumbai, one of the biggest cosmopolitan cities of the world, is no less than a concrete jungle. Locals crave green patches and fresh air, which is not quite as abundant as one would hope.

1. Galle Face Green

This historical landmark stretches across 5 hectares and is located near the Fort Area of Colombo. It has a beautiful beach that runs for half a kilometer, along the coastline. Locals love to sit back, relax and enjoy some quality time with loved ones here. You can also indulge in jogging, beach volleyball, people watching and kite flying here.

2. Viharamahadevi Park

Located close to the National Museum, this is the largest park in Colombo. It was initially named Victoria Park and offers mesmerizing views of the sunrise and sunset. The area is lined with swings and slides, fountains, flower beds, play zones and a mini zoo. But the highlight is the huge Golden Buddha statue. After deboarding your Mumbai to Colombo flight, visit this place for some good times in the lap of nature.

3. Beddagana Wetland Park

Anyone looking to relish solitude, this is the perfect place for you. Along with dragonflies, butterflies and regional bird watching, locals and tourists come here to stroll through the green walkways. This marshland is still untouched by humans and is home to a rich ecosystem. The Duck Pond, Diyawanna Walk and Floating Deck are major attractions here.

4. Crow Island Beach Park

To promote healthy recreation, the park was opened to the public in 2016. It is spread over 17 acres and packed with bicycle tracks, playgrounds, mangroves, freshwater lakes, timber decks and a bevy of restaurants and shops. Located along the shores of the India Ocean, this is one of the liveliest parks of Sri Lanka. If you are heading to this area after your flights between Mumbai to Colombo, do take a moment to witness the sunset or try your hand at kite flying.

5. Gangaramaya Park

This park is well maintained by the Sri Lankan Army. It is one of the cleanest and most peaceful areas of Colombo. One can witness plenty of beautiful flora here. It is located around the Beira Lake, situated in the center of the city. Tourists love to visit this park to enjoy serenity, while soaking in the beauty of the man-made lake. If you are lucky, you will get to see a few rare bird species here, making it a top spot for bird lovers. The best time to visit is early morning or late evening.
